Sigma Chi, one of the oldest and largest all-male Greek fraternities nationally, has evolved into the one of the premiere leadership fraternity in the country.  Based on the values of friendship, justice, and learning, Sigma Chi boasts four national leadership programs, two philanthropic organizations, and a strong executive council goverened by Grand Officers and exceptional undergraduate leaders.

Sigma Chi Horizons Leadership Program

Sigma Chi Balfour Leadership Training Workshop (BLTW)

The Balfour Leadership Training Workshop brings undergraduate chapters together for four days to enhance leadership potential.  The workshop focuses on a chapter's nine key areas: Consuls, Pro Consuls, Quaestors, Magisters, Recruitment Chairmen, Centurians, Emerging Leaders, Chapter Advisors, and Mentors.  It is the largest leadership training session in the Greek-letter world, typically bringing out over 1,300 brothers.  During this workshop, chapter officers gain leadership strategies and tips for implementing effective programming.

State of the Chapter

The Eta Lambda chapter is currently planning for the 2009-2010 school year.  Over the past year, we are pleased to announce the addition of 33 initiated brothers to our chapter, including the Voice of the Virginia Tech Hokies, Bill Roth. 

As usual, we worked tirelessly in our philanthropic efforts for Sigma Chi's two main charities, the Children's Miracle Network and the Huntsman Cancer Institute.  We were able to raised over $15,000 for the Children's Miracle Network and over $1,300 for the Huntsman Cancer Institute.  We also participated in Virginia Tech's Relay for Life, helping the Hokies host the largest Relay for Life event of any college campus in the country.

On the athletic field, we narrowly missed out on winning the IFC Hokie Grail (All-Sports Trophy).  With 2nd place finishes in Soccer, Football, and Basketball, coupled with a 1st place victory in Softball, we were able to finish 2nd overall.  Although we graduated many athletes, there is no doubt that the Sigs will be out in full force on the athletic fields next year.

We hosted a very special spring Initiation in which many Grand Officers were in attendance.  Our initiation was attended by 65th Grand Consul Bob Jones, Sigma Chi Executive Director Mike Dunn, Grand Trustee Bruce Castner, as well as many of our local alumni. 

Among other things, we also raised our chapter GPA and number of brothers on the Deans List.  We moved from 18th to 14th on the IFC chapter GPA list.  We also had three brothers attain a 4.0 GPA and 31 brothers who achieved Virginia Tech's Deans List (3.4 GPA or better).

We had a very successful social scene as well.  We were able to experience weekly socials with on-campus sororities, along with seasonal parties and both fall and spring semester formals.
