  • Eta Lambda Wins 2010-2011 Hokie Grail

    Led by Mark Dattore’s (’13) inside-the-park homerun, our Eta Lambda chapter won the IFC Softball Tournament on Sunday, beating Pi Kappa Alpha in the championship game by a score of 10-9. More importantly, this victory seals the 2010-2011 Hokie Grail for Sigma Chi. The Hokie Grail is the award bestowed upon the fraternity with the greatest overall athletic accomplishments throughout the school year, calculated through a point system.

    Derby Days Update #6 - Kappa Delta Wins Derby Days 2011!

    In the closest race in the history of our chapter’s Derby Days, Kappa Delta edged out Alpha Phi by a mere four points – 1539 to 1535 – to be crowned champions of Derby Days 2011. Alpha Phi led by 81 points going in to the final event, but Kappa Delta’s 1st place performance and top attendance at Air Bands earned them just enough points to come out on top.

    Derby Days Update #5 - Air Bands

    With Virginia Tech football players Ryan Williams and David Wilson looking on as guest judges, Kappa Delta won the final event of Derby Days – Air Bands – for the third consecutive year with a superb dance performance (see video below). This win brings Kappa Delta within striking distance of Alpha Phi for first place in the overall standings.     Derby Days Update #4 - Brotherhood Auction

    Alpha Phi took a commanding lead of Derby Days 2011 on Thursday night at the Brotherhood Auction, winning theme night #3, having the second highest percentage of their sisters attending, coming in third in the brotherhood auction performance, and most importantly putting in winning bids on four sets of coaches.     Thank you to all of the sororities that descended on Adventure World in Christiansburg on Tuesday for what has come to be known as the signature event of Derby Days – the Roller Derby.     This is the second year we have held our "Derby Chase" event, in which our brothers attempt to race from Burruss Hall to Prichard Quad without being tagged by an opposing sorority, thereby earning points for the sorority that they are coaching.     IFC Water Polo Champs!

    After a dominating, double-digit win against Delta Sigma Phi in the semifinals earlier in the day, our Sigma Chi squad faced off against Pi Kappa Alpha in the finals to determine who would be crowned 2011 IFC water polo champions. After falling behind 3-8 at halftime and 8-10 by the end of the 3rd quarter, our team managed to go on a 6-2 run in the fourth quarter, earning the victory by a score of 14-12.

    The Eta Lambda soccer team took the field Saturday and captured a second straight IFC soccer title. The day began with a 1-0 victory over Theta Chi. Sigma Chi faced Sigma Phi Epsilon in the semifinals. Hunter Wood (13') sent a laser of a shot from thirty yards out to the back of the net in the first half.     IFC Flag Football Champions!

    This past Sunday afternoon, quarterback Matt Ritt ('11) led the Sigma Chi flag football team to a dominant victory over PIKE in the championship game, coming within a 2 yard catch of having the game called by mercy rule. This adds great momentum for our athletics teams, as we look forward to the other two fall sports (volleyball and soccer), each of which we won last year.
